There are many great rail journeys but for me the ultimate in rail travel was crossing Russia, from Moscow to Vladivostok by The Trans-Siberian Express: 5,805 miles travelling through eight time zones on a privately chartered train shared with interesting people from around the Globe.

Our adventure was enhanced by other rail journeys and overnight sleepers commencing London St Pancras by Eurostar to Brussels, then via Cologne, Warsaw, across Belarus and finally into Moscow. After a city tour of Moscow and a banquet to meet fellow travellers we transferred to The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express.

Overall, a journey across one-third of the world by train from London - can anything be better?! Seventeen days outbound in luxury cabins, fine cuisine and enjoyable conversation plus daily excursions to remote places you normally only dream about and forty-eight hours within mysterious Mongolia - surely the highlight for our group.
